OOC Commentary on Lt. Kern Denseran

Kern hails from the world of Toril -- D&D gamers will know this as the world of the 'Forgotten Realms' campaign. In game terms, he is a 5th level ranger/12th level wizard, dual classed. His mother is Katrina of Chauntea, a druidess of one of the Realmsian nature gods, now deceased. His father is Theron Denseran, a chronomancer and master of wild magic, presumed dead. Kern was brought to Furry when he was 8 or so years old, for protection, and it has been his home ever since. He is human, but the merging of druidic and wild magics changed him in the womb, making him into a lycanthrope: a werewolf.

Kern's bodyguard, K'thias, is a member of the S'pht, a purely cybernetic race in a parallel world. Kern's father, Lord Theron, was helping the S'pht in their fight against a conquering race, the Phfor. The Phfor, tired of taking losses against the mage and his other supporters, employed the trih xeem - a device which causes stars to go into early novas.

No technology could stop the trih xeem once activated, and the S'pht vessels could not escape in time. Therefore Lord Theron used his powers over wild magic to take the chaotic energies of the trih xeem into himself, in order to banish the energy into another plane. When the spell was completed, however, Theron himself had also disappeared. He is presumed dead. Because of the risks that he took for them, the S'pht appointed one of their number, K'thias, to serve and protect Kern.
