OOC Commentary and Background
on Ivver & the "Saluki"

Ivver

Ivver is an alien kitty morph. She grew up in a distant time or galaxy as part of a middle class family. Hir parents hid hir almost at birth because sie was born somewhat mutated, hir eyes in particular being deformed. The nation to which hir parents belonged performed what they referred to as "genetic cleansing," which was sterilization and then enslavement of all citizens found to be "mutated."

Ivver is a hermaphrodite. Properly, hir reproductive system is completely alien and hir gender has no accurate counterpart in mammals. Incidentally, Ivver is not a mammal, but does posess an outwardly mammalian appearance because of hir fur.

Ivver has a last name, but nobody knows what it is except Ivver. In hir culture each person is given a nickname at birth, a nickname as an adult, and a secret name, which only hir and hir spouse will ever know.

As a child, Ivver was sent off to school as part of a scientific experiment by a local university which did not belive in genetic cleansing. The people at the university first tried to correct Ivver's vision with surgery, then organ cloning, and finally cybernetics. Once Ivver obtained hir eyesight, sie was trained as a photographer, and because of hir cybernetically enhanced eyes became proficient at hir job.

Ivver was wisked away from hir home time and galaxy when sie became caught up in a hyperspace experiment which went fatally wrong. Sie found hirself on the shores of a bizarre world which had developed an alien technology.

Ivver spent a year on the alien world learning the basics of their technology and discovering that sie had at least some talent in its use. Sie eventually became an outlaw on that world as well when sie formed an underground railroad for shipping slaves to freedom, using the starship in which sie'd escaped from her previous home to hide and fly whole families of slaves to freedom.

Ivver was again swept away by another "ripple" in space/time which left hir in yet another time and place called FurrySpace. Sie has become a jobber and ITG courier, using the small exploration/courier "Saluki" to ship small cargoes about FurrySpace. Rumor has it that sie might even ship illegal goods. Sie has since associated hirself with a rogue fighter pilot which sie is deeply in love with, and has also become associated with a planetoid space station called "The Black Market," which sie runs weapons and spice for.

Ivver is now 25 years old. Her personality walks the line between good and evil. Hir love for hir fellow man drives hir to rescue any prisoner or slave whom sie feels is unjustly held, but having lived hir whole life (literally since sie was an infant) running from the law, sie has a complete contempt for it, and will not hesitate to break the law. Sie is also a pacifist, unable to bring hirself to kill any person, no matter how much sie hates them. That doesn't mean sie won't try to drive them to suicide with hir patented theft, harassment, and sabatoge.

The "Saluki"

The CS stands for "Civilian Ship," the Saluki's original civilian designation before being converted to a government subordinate.

Ivver is not captain of hir ship, since sie holds no military rank. Sie is simply an owner -- and not even properly that, since the ship was stolen to escape a mother ship that was about to destroy itself... it probably would have been returned, but the mother ship came from another time period, and Ivver's ship jumped to another time and galaxy.

Ivver is the main character in many of hir player's short stories.

Ivver is a hermaphrodite, displaying characteristics of both genders. To indicate this, the terms 'sie' and 'hir' are used instead of terms which delineate only one gender.
