The Inking Tutorial

This is Image Comics' style of inking, characterized by obsessive detailing and a glossy presentation of surfaces. Whether it be armor, bare skin, or a firearm, everything has a shine and a bounce light. The line work is generally thin, and contrast is supplied by obsessive hatching.

Unfortunately this style is often dependent upon PhotoShop colorists to salvage it. Seeing the art in raw black and white brings up many of the style's shortcomings. This is not a style I'd recommend for a novice, as it leads to time inefficiency and bad drawing habits. A new artist often obsesses over surface and detail, forgetting the more important fundamentals of anatomy, perspective, and composition. Of course, that can be said of a lot of pros using this style as well.
